Walter J Sowul, 79 of Wall passed away Sunday, January 7, 2018 at his home with his family by his side. Walter was born and raised in Jersey City, NJ and was a graduate of Dickinson High School, Jersey City, NJ. He was a United States Marine Corp veteran who served during the Vietnam War. After his service to our country Walter worked as a computer technician for many years and retired after 20 years of service from the State of New Jersey Justice Department as supervisor of the computer program. Walter was a very sociable person in his neighborhood who enjoyed talking to his neighbors and friends. He loved spending time with his family especially his grandchildren who affectionately referred to him as “Poppy”.
Walter was predeceased by his wife of 52 years Peggy Joan Sowul in 2014. He is survived by his three daughters and one son-in-law Melissa Schwefringhaus of Neptune, Melanie Cotroneo of Brick and Marlana and Manny Fonseca of Edgewood, MD. Walter is also survived by his five grandchildren Christopher, Hayden, Sophia, Olivia and Christian; and a brother and his wife Richard and Marie Sowul of Keansburg, NJ.
Family and friends are invited to attend a visitation on Thursday, January 11, 2018 from 6-8 pm at Orender Family Home for Funerals 2643 Old Bridge Road Manasquan, NJ. A funeral service will be held 10:30 am on Friday, January 12, 2018 at Brig Gen William C Doyle Veterans Memorial Cemetery Chapel Wrightstown, NJ. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to St, Jude Children Research Hospital PO Box 1000 Dept 142 Memphis, TN 38101.
