Irene Smith (Nehila)
Irene Lillian Smith, 87 of Toms River passed away at Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune with her family by her side. Irene was born and raised in Perth Amboy and resided there until 1990 when her and her husband moved to Toms River. Irene was a communicant of Holy Trinity Church in Perth Amboy and St. Maximilian Kolbe Church in Toms River. She was a beautician for over 25 years for various hair salons in Perth Amboy. Irene enjoyed bowling, playing cards and bingo, trips to Atlantic City, playing mahjong, doing arts and crafts; she was a poll worker, auxiliary member of the Toms River First Aid and gardener extraordinaire.
Irene was predeceased by her husband of 59 years Joseph Smith; her parents Emil and Mary Nehila; her brother Joseph Nehila; her sister Margaret Korosko and her grandson James Fusaro. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law Patricia and Dr. James Fusaro of Wall; two brothers Emil Nehila of Woodbridge and Edward Nehila and his wife Rita of Millsboro, DE; two sisters Marie Lubonski of Edison and Florence Loughlin and her husband Dennis of Neshanic Station, NJ. Irene is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Family and friends are invited to attend a visitation on Tuesday March 27, 2018 from 2-4 and 6-8 pm at Orender Family Home for Funerals 2643 Old Bridge Road Manasquan, NJ. A funeral service will be held 11 am on Wednesday March 28, 2018 at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Holy Trinity Cemetery in Hopelawn.
