Joseph “David” Sayers, 85, of Point Pleasant, passed away on June 30, 2018 at Ocean Medical Center with his family at his side. Dave, to his family, friends and neighbors, was born and raised in Jersey City where he attended St. Michael’s High School. He served in the U.S. Naval Reserves at 17, and Active Duty ’51-’53, serving on the U.S.S. Murray, DDE-576. Residing in Point Pleasant Borough since 1970, Dave worked as a Teamster driver for Jersey Coast Freight Lines, Neptune, and for the Point Pleasant Board of Ed., prior to fully retiring. More recently he was proud to be a member of the National Tin Can Sailors Organization, and closer to home the Over The Rail Gang, Manasquan Inlet, a local fishing club.
He was predeceased by his parents Joseph D. Sayers and Susan E. Gottberg (Ronan), and his former wife Jane M. Nendze (Geigold). He is survived by his oldest son Jeffrey and his wife Kathy; son Christopher and his wife Ann Michele; his daughter Tracey Ann Sayers; his six grandchildren Christopher, Alec, Emma, Jack, Sydney, and Colin; his sister Susan E. Smulders; nieces Nicole and Susan, and their children Luke, Ben, Ronnie, and Jayden.
Family and friends are invited to attend a visitation from 6-8 pm on Friday July 13, 2018 at Orender Family Home for Funerals, 2643 Old Bridge Rd., Manasquan. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9AM, Saturday, July 14 at The Church of St. Martha, 3800 Herbertsville Rd., Point Pleasant.
