Obituary for Lorraine Karagan (Bodenstedt)

Lorraine  Karagan (Bodenstedt)
Lorraine Karagan (nee Bodenstedt) of Wall Township passed away at Ocean Medical Center on January 10, 2018 surrounded by her loving family.

Lorraine was born October 1, 1929 in Brooklyn, NY and raised in East Orange, NJ. She was daughter of the late Margaret and Thomas Bodenstedt. After marrying her husband Charles in 1954, they moved to Edison, NJ where she raised her family. She later moved to Manasquan, NJ where she retired with her companion of many years, Mike Simko. She is predeceased by her husband, Charles Karagan, her sons Kevin and Mark Karagan, her parents and her sister Ruth Cross.

Lorraine’s greatest accomplishment in life was raising her family, as she was a stay at home mom for many years. She later worked for NJ Bell until her retirement. She always looked forward to specially enjoyed her yearly trips with Mike to Naples, Fl to escape the NJ winters.

Surviving are her daughter Kathleen (Karagan) Gottlieb and husband Jeff of Pawleys Island, SC, and son Keith Karagan and wife Sharon of Brick, NJ. She also leaves behind her companion of many years, Mike Simko of Manasquan and her extended family, Michael and Gary Simko and Jean Marie Mainente. She will be lovingly remembered as Grammy by Lori and Matthew Gottlieb, and Jack and Zoe Karagan, and as Mimi by Danielle and Michael Simko and Will, Thomas and Patrick Mainente.

Family and friends are invited to attend a visitation on Sunday January 14, 2018 from 4-7 pm at Orender Family Home, 2643 Old Bridge Road, Manasquan, NJ. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 9:30 am Monday January 15, 2018 at St. Denis Church, Manasquan. Cremation will be private. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, PO Box 1000 Dept 142. Memphis, TN 38101.
