Obituary for Richard Harding Erickson

Richard Harding Erickson

Beloved husband, father and grandfather, 82

Richard Harding Erickson, 82, of Manasquan, NJ died peacefully on August 16, 2018, surrounded by his loving family at Hackensack Meridian Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Brick, NJ. Mr. Erickson was the son of the late Eveline and Gustav Erickson, and stepson of the late Manuel Garcia. He was a beloved and devoted husband for 59 years to Nancy Nye Erickson, the love of his life.

Born August 27, 1935, Rick was a graduate of Union NJ High School, and Upsala College, and was an agent with the Indemnity Insurance Co. of North America. He was a member of All Saints’ Episcopal Church, Bay Head, the Manasquan Elks Club and the Sea Girt Army Camp. He proudly served in the National Guard in Ohio and New Jersey, and revered the American flag for all it stands for. He was also a founding member of the Manasquan Elks Club and longtime volunteer for the National Guard Militia Museum in Sea Girt, NJ.

Mr. Erickson is survived by his wife Nancy, and their three children: son Richard and wife Jean, of Westfield, NJ; daughter Pamela Llewellyn and husband Patrick of Little Silver, NJ and daughter Wendy Johnson and husband David of Brielle, NJ. He leaves behind eight devoted grandchildren: Patrick and Walker Llewellyn, Justin, Bradley and Brennan Erickson, and Lauren, Allison and Thomas Johnson all of whom enjoyed the love and company of their “Boompa.”

His love of family, faith and country were unshakeable, and he considered everyone he met to be a friend. He introduced all of his grandchildren to the joys of the Manasquan inlet, and to his many fishing buddies, affectionately known as “The Over the Rail Gang.”

The family would like to take the opportunity to thank the hardworking and compassionate staff of the Hackensack Meridian Nursing and Rehabilitation Center for their kindness, empathy and excellent care they provided in his years there.

Family and friends are invited to attend a visitation on Monday August 20, 2018 at All Saints Episcopal Church 500 Lake Avenue Bay Head, NJ from 11 am until 11:45 with the funeral service to begin at 12 noon. Interment will be at 3 pm at Greenwood Cemetery, Brielle. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial donations be made to: Meridian Health Foundation, Meridian Nursing & Rehab at Brick, Activities Center, 1340 Campus Parkway, Building C, Unit 4, Neptune, NJ 07753, RE: in memory of Richard H.
