William A  Rakestraw Jr.
William A Rakestraw, Jr., 83 of Wall Township passed away peacefully at Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune on Saturday August 25, 2018. He was born in Dubois, PA, and relocated to Wall in 1960 after serving 5 years in the US Army during the Korean War. He was a retired Belmar Postal Worker and a dedicated member of the American Legion Post 346, holding the following offices: National Vice Commander 2010-2011, National Executive Committeeman 2008-2009, Alternate National Executive Committeeman 2003-2005, State Department Commander 1996-1997, State Department Vice Commander 1995-1996, State Department Executive Committeeman 1987-1996, County Commander 1986-1987, County Vice Commander 1984-1986 and Post Commander 1983-1984.

Bill was predeceased by his wife of 50 years Claudia in 2010. He is survived by a brother and his wife Jack and Phyliss Rakestraw, Easton, PA; a son Jon Michael Rakestraw of Wall. He is also survived by a grandson Max William of Jackson, NJ as well as cousins, nieces and nephews.

Family and friends are invited to attend a service to be held at Brig Gen William C Doyle Veteran Memorial Cemetery at 11 am on Tuesday September 4, 2018. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to American Legion Post 346 21 Gully Road, Neptune, NJ 07753 or West Belmar United Methodist Church 1000 7th Avenue, West Belmar, NJ 07719.
