Obituary for Michael Simko

Michael Simko passed away at his home in Four Seasons in Wall Township surrounded by his children on Friday, October 12th two weeks before his 91st birthday.
Michael (always called Mike) was born on October 27, 1927 in Hazleton, PA. He was the youngest of four sons of John and Mary (Rilko) Simko. After graduation from Hazleton High School he joined the Navy a few months before the end of World War II. Following his military service, he lived in Philadelphia. He married his hometown sweetheart Geraldine McHugh in 1951 and moved to Linden, NJ where they raised their family. Always an entrepreneur, Michael founded Simko Distributors and later ended his career as a salesperson for the successor company, Middlesex Tobacco.
Michael was predeceased by his wife, Geraldine McHugh (Gerrie) of 39 years who passed away in 1991 and his brothers George, John and Joseph and his mother-in-law Mary McHugh.
Upon retirement Michael moved to Wall Township, New Jersey with his companion Lorraine Karragan. He was an active retiree, traveling and socializing with great friends, playing bocce, attending sporting events and spending countless hours with his grandchildren. He continued his support of the military as a member of the American Legion.
Michael was predeceased by his long-term companion, Lorraine Karragan who passed away in January, 2018
Michael was survived by two sons and a daughter, Michael Simko and his children Danielle and Michael of Wall Township, NJ, their mother Wendy Simko of Brick NJ and his companion, Lori Richardson and Gary Simko of New York, NY; his daughter Jean Marie and her husband William and their children, William, Thomas and Patrick of Morris Township, NJ. He also leaves behind his extended family: Kathy and Jeff Gottlieb of Pawley Island, SC and their children Lori and Matthew and; Keith and Sharon Karragan of Brick, NJ and their children Jack and Zoe. As well as his nieces and nephews: Charles Simko, Barbara Attick, John Simko, Ronald Simko, Patricia Sharwarko and sister-in-law Julie Simko.

Family and friends are invited to attend a visitation on Sunday October 14, 2018 from 3-6 pm at Orender Family Home for Funerals 2643 Old Bridge Road Manasquan. A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 am at St. Denis Church, Manasquan. Interment to follow at St Gertrude Cemetery, Colonia, NJ. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to Wounded Warriors Project PO Box 758517 Topeka, KS 66675 or Meals on Wheels 225 4th Street Lakewood, NJ 08701.
