Maureen A. Meehan, 86 of Manasquan originally of Brooklyn, passed away peacefully at home on December 14th surrounded by her loving family. Maureen is predeceased by her loving parents, Raymond and Mary Meehan, her devoted brother, Richard Meehan, and her niece, Susan Gilmartin Serpico. Maureen was the matriarch of the Meehan family. She leaves behind five siblings: Anne Gilmartin, Raymond and (Ann) Meehan, William and (Carolyn) Meehan, Susan Meehan, and Jane and (Barry) Coyle. She was a devoted and loving aunt to fifteen nieces and nephews and 29 grandnieces and nephews.

Maureen was an intelligent and accomplished woman. She earned her Bachelor’s Degree from St. Francis College in Brooklyn. She began her career as an administrative assistant at The Anaconda Co. in New York City in 1952 where she ultimately held the position of administrative manager. In 1981 Maureen began the last chapter of her professional career as the Director of Word Processing at the Sherman & Sterling Law Firm in Manhattan. She retired in 1994. During her career Maureen also served as the President of the New York Chapter of International Word Processing Association for three years.
Upon her retirement, Maureen moved permanently to Fairway Mews in Spring Lake Heights. While in residence, she was President of the Condo 1-1 Association for 13 years. In her retirement she participated in numerous volunteer activities. She was proud of her time teaching English for the Volunteers of America. In addition, she compiled and edited “The Tattler,” the monthly newsletter of the Brielle Woman’s Club. Beginning in 2010, she shared a home in Manasquan with her sister Susan, her nephew Matthew Meehan Scalzo to whom she was a mother-figure, his wife Victoria Melin, and her “granddaughter” Mary Clare. Spending time with Mary Clare brought her tremendous joy in her last years.
Family and friends are invited to attend a Memorial Mass of Christian Burial 10 am on Thursday, December 20, 2018 at Church of St. Denis, 90 Union Avenue Manasquan, NJ.
