Jose “Ray” Ortiz, 76, of Farmingdale, NJ passed away suddenly of a massive stroke on January 13, 2019. Ray was born in Coama, Puerto Rico and raised in Wall, NJ. Ray was a graduate of Wall High School and attended Brookdale and Monmouth Colleges. He worked for Ford Motor Corp as a mechanic for several years before being employed at 7-UP, Neptune. While he was working at 7-UP Ray also was working as a Class II Police Officer for a period of 6 years before becoming a Police Officer for Bradley Beach police Department. Ray’s police department career lasted for 30 years retiring in 2006 at the rank of Captain. He was a member of 2 police unions PBA 50 and PBA 600. Ray was a Spanish translator for several area police departments and was an avid softball player for his PBA team.
Ray was predeceased by his parents Santos and Rosa Ortiz and two sisters Lucy Guzman and Dominga Kania. He is survived by his loving children Tina Kremp and her husband Jim of Brick, NJ and Kevin Ortiz and his wife Anna of Brick, NJ and their mother and longtime companion Joyce Ortiz of Farmingdale, NJ. Ray is also survived by a brother Juan and Gail Ortiz of South Carolina; two sisters Jovita Kupisioski of Tinton Falls, NJ and Margarita Nelson of Brick, NJ; his cherished four grandchildren Matthew Kremp and his wife Victoria, Nicholas, Maximus and Josephine.
Family and friends are invited to attend a visitation on Wednesday, January 16, 2019 from 3-8 pm at Orender Family Home for Funerals 2643 Old Bridge Road Manasquan, NJ 08736. A funeral service will be held 10:30 am on Thursday, January 17, 2019 at the funeral home. Cremation will be private.
