Obituary

Alice Bowne, 85, of Wall Township passed away on Sunday, January 27, 2019 at her home with her family by her side after a courageous battle with ALS. Alice was a lifelong resident of Wall Township and a graduate of Manasquan High School. She worked as a secretary for Sea Girt Army Camp prior to her marriage. After raising her family she worked as a receptionist for a doctor's office and also in the Allaire State Park General Store for over 20 years. Alice was a member of the Allaire Village Auxiliary and the St. Vincent DePaul Society of St. Catherine of Sienna, Farmingdale. She loved all animals and was a huge supporter of Rescue Ridge; she enjoyed crafting, sewing, reading, solving crossword puzzles, and watching the many birds and deer in her backyard.
Alice was predeceased by her husband of 33 years Leslie Bowne in 1989. She is survived by her loving sons and their wives Butch and Debbie Bowne of Howell and Tommy and Barbara Bowne of Brick. Alice is also survived by her four cherished grandchildren Jason (Chrissy) Bowne, Kristin (Mike) Adams, Rob (Lauren) Bowne, and Andrew (Sara) Bowne; four great grandchildren Emilia, Adelyn, Harper, and Kessler; and many nieces and nephews. Additionally, she is survived by her longtime friend and companion, Bob Clayton of Point Pleasant.
Family and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 am on Saturday, March 9, 2019 at St. William the Abbot Church, Howell. Burial will be private at St. Rose of Lima Cemetery, Freehold. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to The Joan Dancy & PALS (People with ALS) Foundation, Hackensack Meridian Health Riverview Medical Center, P.O. Box 8157, Red Bank, NJ 07701 or Rescue Ridge, P.O. Box 223, Spring Lake, NJ 07762. Arrangements are under the care of Orender Family Home for Funerals. Alice was a wonderful and kind person. We loved when she came to Gails Optical, sometimes with a little handmade scarf for Gail's dog Maggie. She will be missed. We offer our condolences to her family.

.I was saddened to read that Alice had passed away. I met Alice in 1990. We met in the bereavement group when our husbands passed away. A few of us "hit it off" and continued our friendships after the bereavement sessions ended. We decided to meet at least once a month. We celebrated everyone's birthday during their special month, had dinner parties, game nights, bbqs, went to the movies, had crafting sessions, etc. A couple of times, Alice and I even made home-made grave blankets to place on our husbands' grave sites. Alice was a sweet, kind person and I will miss her. I send my deepest sympathies, blessings, and love to the whole family! Love - Christine Rosinski, Wall Township

I didn’t realize how much Aunt Alice was part of my life until I began to write this message of condolence to my cousins. When I was a small kid, I would watch her getting ready for a date with her circle skirts , roller skates and page boy hairdo. She polished my nails, did my hair, took me to the beach, the zoo, the boardwalk. She was the first person I knew who wore jeans. We teased her mercilessly, little knowing that within a few years, we’d all be wearing them, though maybe not rolled up and in all those colors. As a teenager, I spent hours babysitting at her house. The boys were always asleep when I came, so I spent most of my time with whatever large dog she had at the time. Sometimes I’d walk down and chat with her while she worked in the kitchen. She helped me when I began researching Kessler family genealogy. She was a very special, kind and thoughtful friend to me, and she loved her family very, very much. It didn’t matter how long I stayed away I always felt perfectly at home when I made my way back. I will miss her presence in the world.
