Obituary

Alfred F. Essner, 82, passed away at his home on Thursday, June 27, 2019 with his loving family by his side. He was born and raised in West Orange, NJ where he attended West Orange High School. Al had worked for Essner and Son Heating and Cooling, West Orange before moving to the shore area in 1958. Manasquan is where he and his family eventually settled in 1964. Al had worked for Wm. R. Hogg Co. Inc. Asbury Park for 32 years. He was a member of the Manasquan Hook and Ladder Company #1 for over 50 years where he held every officer’s position including Chief and President. Al enjoyed camping with his wife, being an active member of the fire department, watching western and sci-fi shows and spending time with his family and most of all his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. His life was his family and “His” Firehouse.

Al was predeceased by his parents Alfred and Minnie Essner and his son Alfred Essner in 2014. He is survived by his beloved wife of 62 years Kathy (Hesse) Essner of Manasquan; his loving children Kathy (Jeff) Sayers of Wall, John (Cathy) Essner of Jackson, Jill (Brian) Moran of Manasquan, Glenn (Laura) Essner of Manalapan and Ida (Steven) Kish of Brick. Al is also survived by fifteen cherished grandchildren Alec, Jack, David, Matthew, Andrew, Grace, Margaret, John, Audrey, Patrick (Amanda), Christopher, Samantha, Janine, Anthony and Nicholas; three cherished great grandchildren Jeremy, Anthony and Abbylynn. He is also survived by a sister Judy Bennett of Spring Lake Heights.

Family and friends are invited to attend a memorial service on Saturday, July 6, 2019 at 11am at the Manasquan Hook and Ladder Company #1, 33 Abe Voorhees Drive, Manasquan, NJ 08736. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to Manasquan Hook and Ladder Company #1. To send condolences to the family please visit www.orenderfamilyhome.com.
