Obituary

It is with great sadness that the family of Edward Joseph Romanko announces his passing on July 5, 2019, at the age of 87 years. Ed will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 58 years, Ann Marie and his children, Edward Jr. and David, and by daughters-in-law Lisa and Barrie. Ed will also be fondly remembered by his six grandchildren, Evan, Shane, Megan, Ellery, Hunter and Reilly.

Ed, born and raised in Dupont, PA, came from a large family of seven children with colorful nicknames. Ed (Edgy) was predeceased by his sisters Betty, Peggy (Baby), Veronica (Huncie) and older brother Joe and survived by younger brothers Steven (Sonny) and Robert (Bobby).

In January 1953 at the age of 20, Ed began his military service in the US Army during the end of the Korean War. After serving a two year tour of duty as a corporal stationed in Germany, Ed returned to Dupont,PA and co-founded an American Legion Post with his lifelong friend and fellow serviceman George Pidick. Ed continued to serve in the US Army Reserve until 1961.

After marrying Ann Marie in 1960, they relocated to South Plainfield, NJ and Ed began his civil service with the United States Post Office where he was a letter carrier in New Providence until his retirement in 1990. Never one to have idle time on his hands, Ed also loved being self-employed as a painting contractor for over 40 years. A talented handyman who took on countless projects around the house, there was no job too big or too small for him to tackle for friends, family or neighbors.

Ed retired to Manasquan with wife Ann Marie and had many happy memories with his children and grandchildren visiting weekend after weekend enjoying family time at their beachside home along the Jersey shore.

Family and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 am on Tuesday, July 30, 2019 at St. Denis Church, 90 Union Avenue, Manasquan, NJ 08736. Burial will be private.

In lieu of flowers, please consider memorial donations to the Alzheimer's Foundation at www.alzfdn.org or the Visiting Nurse Association Health & Hospice - VNA Health Group at https://vnahg.org/giving/ in memory of Ed. To send condolences to the family please visit www.orenderfamilyhome.net.

I have many happy childhood memories of Uncle Edgy and his brother Joe ..my dad...trips to Shea stadium to see the Mets or Veterans stadium to see the Phillies...many Saturday nights over each others houses just laughing while all our cousins played or swam in the pool...I never remember Uncle Edgy not laughing or smiling! NEVER ! May you Rest In Peace and our heartfelt condolences from Joe and Caroline
