Obituary

Helen Price, 91, of Wall New Jersey, passed away peacefully on Friday, January 24th, 2020 at Sunnyside Manor Nursing Home in Wall. Helen was born March 13th, 1928 in Cambria PA to Wassail (Charles) & Anna (Zaluzska) Glover. She was one of ten children. She lived and attended school in Pennsylvania where she graduated from Johnstown High in 1947. After high school, she moved to New York City with her sister where she worked as a dental assistant. Helen loved Greenwich Village and all that New York offered. There Helen met her husband of 41 years, Eugene “Gene” Harris Price and they married on July 31st, 1954. Helen spoke English & Russian but went on to learn Indonesian at the Berlitz school in NYC. This prepared her for the next adventure of her life, her husband’s transfer with Standard Oil to Indonesia. Helen loved the experience and even taught the English language to the local school children. She developed deep and lasting friendships during her time there. Helen highly valued education and reading and had a thirst for knowledge. Helen loved children, gardening, and traveling. Helen spoke often of her trip aboard the Queen Mary 1 and the various countries they toured on the way home to the US. Helen also started the first Girl Scout Troop at Theodore Roosevelt School in Elizabeth New Jersey. Although not wealthy herself, her kind heart reached out to supply uniforms for those girls who could not afford them. At the age of 42, Helen
contracted Spasmodic Torticollis, a rare neurological disease. Although this was a daily struggle she did not let this stop her from living a full life. Helen retired with her husband to Aptos California in 1983. Helen eventually came back to live with her daughter Susan and grandchildren in Wall in 1995. Helen will best be
remembered for her love of travel, makeup, perfume, “story telling”, her kind heart, tolerance of all religions, ethnicities/customs, and her miraculous “green thumb”.

Helen was the widower of Eugene Harris Price, a World War II Battle of the Bulge veteran, who died January 3rd, 1995. Helen is survived by her daughter Susan Valerie Bastardo (Price), and son in law John Bastardo, granddaughter Amanda Michelle Reed (Bastardo) and husband LT. CMDR. US Navy Ben Reed, Kaneohe, Hawaii, Grandson John Bastardo of Wall, Nieces & Nephews Robert Jurick of South Carolina, Candace Glover of Yorktown Heights, NY, Patty Rioux & Betty Felton of Lewiston, NY and grandnieces & nephews, Michelle Stevens (Rioux), Patty Felton, Diane Mealing (Felton), Julie Colosi (Pozak), & Rich Pozak and their children. Helen was predeceased by her granddaughter Elise Catherine Bastardo of Wall, her brothers and sisters; the late John Glover, Michael Glover, Andrew Glover, Stephen Glover, Katherine Warnock, Marie Platt, Susan Glover, Ann Popenik, Christine Glover, and her niece Junie Pozak.

Arrangements are under the care of Orender Family Home for Funerals, Manasquan. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10 am Wednesday, January 29, 2020 at St. Denis Church, Manasquan. Entombment will follow at St Anne's Cemetery, Wall. To send condolences to the family please visit www.orenderfamilyhome.com

Susan and John and Family, my fondest memory of Aunt Helen as a boy is when she took me for a ride in her little black Volkswagen named "Susie". It must have been a wild ride as I recall holding on tightly to the dash handle through the streets of Brooklyn at the time. She was so kind to me as I remember her being fun and full of life.
