Obituary

Frederick J. Dioguardi (74) of Singer Island, Florida, formerly of Spring Lake and Lakewood, passed after a short illness on April 26th. Fred was born in Kearny, NJ in 1945. He graduated from Christian Brothers Academy in Lincroft, NJ and Franklin Pierce College in NH. Fred held two Masters degrees from Georgian Court University. Fred spent his youth and many happy summers as a lifeguard at Surfside Beach Club in West End, NJ. Fred enjoyed a long career as a teacher and guidance counselor at Point Pleasant Borough High School in NJ. He also owned the Olde River Side Farm Day School and No. 1 Video in Brick. After retiring in 2005, he moved to Florida and was employed by the Home Depot. He enjoyed the many friendships that he made there, and was named Employee of the Year in recognition for outstanding contributions to his store. Fred enjoyed collecting sports memorabilia, working out at the gym, and taking care of his pets and lawn. He was especially proud of his saltwater aquarium. Many will remember him with a smile driving his 1957 Chevy around the Jersey Shore.

Fred was predeceased by his parents, Frederico and Adelina Dioguardi, and his siblings, Leopold (wife Virginia), William (wife Theresa), and Frances Casagrande (husband John). Fred is fondly remembered by his 8 nieces and nephews, Justine Van Wagner, Leo Dioguardi (deceased), Paul Dioguardi, Kathleen Squires, Mariann Higgins, Gina McNeill, Bill Dioguardi, and Ken Dioguardi, and many great-nieces and great-nephews. He was also the loving stepfather of Amanda Sheridan and Courtney Dileo.

A Tribute to Fred Dioguardi

I first met Fred when he joined the teaching staff at Point Pleasant Boro High School in the early 1970s and he became a new member of the Business Department. We were all very young, enthusiastic, and just beginning our teaching careers. I am sure everyone has a few stories to tell, and now I would like to share mine with you. One of Fred’s most outstanding traits was his impeccable shinning classroom that was always neat, clean, and well organized. One can only imagine how much fun his colleagues had teasing him about this. His unique business bulletin boards always included his love of sports and his favorite athletics. Without a doubt, he truly admired Muhammad Ali and talked about him quite often. He had a friendly smile and was always very personable. His nickname was Mr. Dio, and he was well-liked by his students and so many of the people employed at the high school.

When the high school bell rang at the end of the day, Fred ventured out into the business world. He spent the second part of his day working very hard at his own No. 1 Video store in Brick as well as Olde River Side Day School. He was always very energetic, physically fit, and spent a lot of time working out at the gym. We had many conversations about his love of the Jersey shore and the activities that were so much a part of his life. However, what I remember the most about Fred was his love of Florida. He spent most of his vacations there, and his ultimate dream was to one day retire in the Sunshine State. Well, his dream finally did become a reality. The pictures of his home were lovely, and he lived close to the beach which he enjoyed so much.

We kept in contact over the years via Christmas cards, and I always looked forward to hearing from him. A few years ago, Fred sent me an old photo of our very young and ambitious Business Department. You can find the picture on his obituary web page and Barbara Kelly’s Facebook account. In retrospect, I think he was letting our department know that we were very special in his lifelong journey. How fortunate we were to have been part of his journey.

The memory of Fred will forever be cherished and never forgotten by the very young and energetic Point Pleasant Boro High School Business Department.

In Loving Memory

God bless Fred Dioguardi, I had Fred as a business teacher back in High School. Fred inspired the youth to be motivated, go out and work for what you want. I can remember Fred teaching is about the Stock Market ,how to read the stocks in the news paper and the numbers. Fred was down to earth and a real good human being. We worked out at a gym in Lakewood,NJ. We occasionally would have laughs remembering the good ole days.I spoke with Fred on March 1st 2020, the trio was Baranick, Patterson and Kak. Fred may you be at rest and we will all be together again one day, Rest In Peace. John Kaklamanis
