Felice “Phyllis” Meccia Gorman:
Phyllis Gorman, 90, of Wall Township, passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, August 5, 2020. Phyllis was born in Newark, NJ, graduated from St. Vincent’s Academy, received her undergraduate degree at the College of St. Elizabeth, followed by a dietetic internship and post graduate work at Florida State University. She was a Registered Dietitian, began her career at Bendix Corporation, before managing food services for over 30 years at Automatic Switch Company in Florham Park. Since childhood, she summered in Belmar, and spent many years at Seawood Harbor in Brick, before retiring full-time at the Jersey Shore. Phyllis loved her sporty cars, golfed, was an avid tennis player, downhill skier and runner, in addition to being a fan of Little League baseball, college football, and professional tennis, baseball and football. Phyllis’s craft as an accomplished chef was a trade she mastered, and was second to none. She will be most remembered as a person who possessed a strong will and a positive attitude, acting as a mentor and inspiration to a great many, young and old.
Phyllis was predeceased by her parents, Christopher and Rose Landolfi Meccia; her husband of 17 years, Victor Gorman; and siblings Carmine, Joseph, Nancy and Matthew. She is survived by siblings Victoria Ciccone, Jane Cuddy, and Christopher Meccia; stepchildren Eileen and her husband David Pitfield, Ruth and her husband Frank O’Brien, and Victor Gorman, Jr. and his wife Colleen; 8 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren, 16 nieces and nephews, 22 grandnieces and grandnephews, and 8 great grandnieces and great grandnephews.
Relatives and friends are invited to call from 2 to 5 pm, Sunday, August 9 at Orender Family Home for Funerals, 2643 Old Bridge Rd, Manasquan, NJ. A Mass of Christian Burial celebrating her vibrant life,with attendees encouraged to dress in colors opposed to black, will be at 10 am Monday, August 10 at Church of St. Rose, Belmar. Burial will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, East Hanover. Flowers graciously accepted or a donation in memory of Phyllis may be made to the College of St. Elizabeth, Santa Rita Hall 306, Morristown, NJ 07960.
