George was an absolute great guy. I worked with George up at Fort Monmouth back in the late eighties and early nineties. He was always curious about everything - guess that was the engineer in him. I had mentioned him to my daughter the just the other day out of the blue when we were talking about skiing. One Saturday around 5Pm circa 1991 or 1992 I got a knock on my door and there stood George with a pair of Kid's skis, boots and poles that he had snagged at a garage sale. It was such a good deal, (something like $15 and the bindings were step ins) that he just knew I would got for it and so he bought them. My daughter was only about 4 years old at the time and these were a little too much for her at that point, but I knew she would grow into them in a few years. She used them for two years when she was bit older. I got my first home computer courtesy of another garage sale that George had sniffed out. It was right about the same time as the skis. He knew I was looking and found this computer that the guy had installed a 20 MB hard drive in which was a big deal back in the early nineties. It was such a good deal (something like $300) that George gave the guy a deposit to hold it and them drove over to my house to let me know. I went over to check it our and sure enough, once again George had come through.

And then there was the day he showed up in my driveway on a Harley. If that thing ever fell over, I don't see how he could have picked it up given his stature. He let me take it for a spin. Cool.

Really sorry to see him go. He will be missed.

I remember George fondly. I conducted a lot of flight tests with George and we went backpacking together for work on the Appalachian Trail for a couple of days one time to survey one of our checkpoints with the Navy Transit Satellite Navigation System. He lent me his backpacking stove for a year or so to use on several hiking trips I took.
