John “Jack” Behson Jr., 78, passed away peacefully on November 19th at Ocean Medical Center from complications from CLL which he fought bravely and with grace for several years. Born in Jersey City on October 6, 1942 to Helen (Hopton) and John Behson Sr., Jack graduated from St Peter’s Prep in 1960 where he was a proud member of the 1958 undefeated football team. He obtained his bachelor’s degree from Jersey City State College where he met and fell in love with Jacqueline. He later earned master’s degrees from the University of New Hampshire and Monmouth College. A resident of Wall Township since 1967, Jack taught mathematics in the Freehold Regional High School District for 30 years where he coached football, mentored the math team, and challenged his students with skill and humor. For many summers, the Behsons enjoyed camping throughout the US and Canada. After retiring from teaching, Jack and Jackie traveled the world together, visiting over 65 countries and most of the 50 states. He took great pride in his family and home and enjoyed going to the gym, playing pickle ball, square dancing, reading, and doing daily crossword puzzles. Jack’s family and friends will remember him for his engaging smile, sparkling blue eyes, wit, sense of humor, work ethic and love of and pride in his family, home, and yard.

He is survived by his cherished wife of 55 years, Jacqueline, beloved daughters and sons-in-law Suzanne and Barry Carlino and Noelle and Brian Baldwin, grandchildren Hayden, Ian and Emily Baldwin, brothers and sisters-in-law Robert and Janet and James and Susan Behson and many nieces and nephews.

Arrangements are under the care of Orender Family Home for Funerals, Manasquan. In lieu of flowers please consider honoring Jack’s memory by donating to a charity of your choice. A celebration of his life will be held at a future date. To send condolences please visit

Jack and I met at Pickleball in Belmar. He always was quick with a joke and win or lose had a smile on his face (although he always wanted to win) While I am very sad to hear of his passing I am grateful for the friendship Jack and I had. Jackie if you need anything don’t hesitate to reach out.
