Sally Ann (Robinson) Walker, age 90, passed peacefully on January 5, 2021 surrounded by her family. Sally grew up in Brooklyn in the 1930s, the youngest daughter of Mildred & Robert Robinson. She adored her sisters and they remained close all their lives. The Robinson girls Mildred, Ruth, Roberta and Sally, along with their parents moved to Bergen County NJ in later years. Here, Sally met the love of her life, Roy Hugh Walker. A few years after marrying, with three children in tow, they bought a home and settled in Spring Lake Heights, NJ on Wreck Pond. There they were active in many community activities including Spring Lake Hgts Independent Fire Co. #1.
Sally loved antiques. She and Roy furnished their beloved home via this hobby; spending many weekends scouting out their “finds” across NJ and PA. Sally also enjoyed gardening. She and Roy landscaped their home on the pond. Sally’s perennial garden was beloved by many. In her younger years, Sally could hit a softball with the best of them. Some say her skill came from her dad, a semi-professional player in their Brooklyn days. She was a star player on the Spring Lake Heights Ladies Team in the 1960s. Sally was also skilled with numbers. She worked as a bookkeeper for several businesses, and then rounded out her career working for Central Jersey Bank & Trust.
Sally was involved in many family activities, and thus instilled a great sense of family and tradition in her children. More than anything, Sally loved her family. One of her favorite ways of showing this was by hosting spectacular holiday meals for everyone. Thanksgiving, Christmas and Easter meals were a sight to see! Most meals had to be served buffet style; as Sally prepared so many dishes (each person’s favorite) that there was hardly room to sit at the table. These warm family gatherings will be cherished by the family forever! Sally was proud of her Swedish heritage. She collected Swedish decorations and holiday ornaments to honor this heritage. Sally was more than an avid reader. Her house was full of books. She spent her later years literally gobbling up books at the rate of at least 3-4 per week!
Sally was predeceased by her husband of 58 years, Roy Hugh, sisters Mildred (Norman Comly), Roberta (Stephen Bienkowski) and Ruth (Frank Recascino), several nieces and a nephew.
Sally is survived by her daughter, Laurie Newmeyer (Bill) and sons Scott Walker (Marsha) and David Walker (Sally) and her sister-in-law Elizabeth Walker; six grandchildren and ten great grandchildren along with cousins, nieces and nephews.
