Catherine (Cathy) Vento was born on July 10, 1940 in the Bronx, New York, raised her family in Staten Island, New York and ultimately resided in Manasquan, New Jersey. She died at home on January 17, 2021 after a long battle with ovarian cancer, with her family at her side. Though her initial interest was accounting she developed a passion for education. She graduated from Baruch College with her B.S in Education cum laude in 1961, went on to graduate magna cum laude with a Master of Science in Education from the City University of New York in 1965. Most of her career she was a high school teacher of business education, accounting and computer applications for the New York City Board of Education, and was well loved by her students and colleagues. In 1985 she brought her skills to a role as a computer coordinator and occupational specialist for the BASIS Superintendent in Brooklyn New York, and ultimately became an assistant principal and department chair at Susan E. Wagner High School. She received multiple awards for supervisory excellence. Realizing there was a lack of adequate training material for the expanding use of office-based computing, she co-authored 29 computer application texts with her great friend and colleague Iris Blanc. She presented seminars, workshops, and mini-courses at conferences, colleges, and business schools nationwide. After retirement, she became a leader in her community at the Four Seasons in Wall Township, and enjoyed activities in the Travel club, Women’s club, Choir and charity events for Susan G. Komen Foundation.
