Obituary

William H. Martens

William H. Martens, 83, of Monmouth Beach, NJ, formerly of Montvale, NJ, beloved Servant of the Lord, passed peacefully to eternal life on February 7, 2021. He was raised in Oradell, NJ and served in the U.S. Army and National Guard. He managed the family business, Martens Five and Dime, before spending the rest of his career at Pepperidge Farm. His passion for antique cars and racing allowed him to volunteer at Wall Stadium Speedway during retirement. Bill was kind, caring, hard-working and had a wonderful sense of humor. He was a self-taught craftsman who loved to build and fix anything and everything. His most cherished moments were spending time with family.

He was the devoted husband to Linda (Selenske) for 60 years. He will be lovingly remembered by his children, Randy and Karen Martens, Amy and Frank Johannes, Jennifer and Glen Sisti, Sally and Kevin James. His 13 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren adoringly called him “Poppy”. He was the dear brother of Ginger, Susan, Jan and the late June and Betty, along with 23 nieces and nephews.

Arrangements are under the care of Orender Family Home of Funerals, Manasquan, NJ. A private interment will be held at Monmouth Memorial Park. To send condolences to the family, please visit www.orenderfamilyhome.com. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of William H. Martens can be made payable and sent to Manasquan Reformed Bible Church, 108 South Street, Manasquan, NJ 08736.

Linda And Family, My sincere condolences on the passing of Bill. He was a great friend of mine and the Wall Stadium crowd. We sold 50/50's together in the pits for many years. I will miss him dearly. My heart goes out to the Family. May he rest in peace. Tim Day

Hello Martens family. This is Sharon Terhune, oldest daughter of Bill’s childhood friend, Bob Terhune. My brother, Gordon, and sister, Janice, have a childhood full of memories of spending weekend days with you all at your homes and ours. We offer our condolences for the loss of this special man. I will dunk a Pepperidge Farm cookie in my tea this afternoon in his honor.
