Obituary

Dolores A. Harris (McKiever) passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Thursday, February 18, 2021.

Dolores, otherwise know as “Dee”, was born April 29, 1939 in Palmerton, PA. Dolores grew up in Newark, NJ with her 4 siblings: Joe, Manny, Rosemarie and Julie. Dolores attended West Side High School Class of 1957. Upon graduation Dolores began her career with American Airlines as a ticket agent. This offered her the opportunity to discover her passion for global travel.

Dolores met her husband John McKiever in 1961 at the Peppermint Lounge in NYC. They went on to marry on August 24, 1963. They moved to Lisbon, Portugal from 1964-1966, where Dolores started her family with her first son Michael and stepdaughter Michelle.

Upon returning back to the United States in 1966, Dolores relocated to Spring Lake Heights, NJ and became a lifelong shore resident. She resided in Manasquan Park, NJ and Manasquan, NJ, where she lovingly raised her four children Michael, Mitchell, Matthew and Jennifer to the caring parents they are today.

Dolores remarried in 1991 to Mr. Barry Harris and continued to happily live their lives together residing between Manasquan, NJ and Fort Myers, FL. Together Barry and Dolores spent the better years of life fishing and lounging in the sun. Dolores found pleasure in spending time with her 3 daughters-in-laws and 12 beautiful grandchildren. Dolores spent many days searching garage sales and thrift shops for little treasures with her daughter-in-law Beth. She had a gift for cooking and hosted many family dinners and holidays with her delicacies. Dolores had a knack for knitting, as she designed many specialty afghans which bring joy to so many today.

Dolores was predeceased by her parents Joe and Mary Pereira, her husband Barry C. Harris and her first husband John W. McKiever. Dolores is survived by her 4 children Michael, 55, Brielle, NJ; Mitchell, 54, and wife Marie of Marlboro, NY; Matthew, 52, and wife Kerry of Brielle, NJ; and Jennifer Farrell, 48, and husband Eddie of Lake Tahoe, CA. Mrs. Harris (McKiever), or ‘Grandma Dee Dee’, has 12 grandchildren Michael, Robert, Mary Elizabeth, Patricia, Joseph, Max, Luke, Sunny, Catherine, Lilly, Reilly and Jack; Stepdaughters Michelle, Treasure Island, FL and Laura Bedle, Pt. Pleasant, NJ and stepsons Brian Harris, Howell, NJ and Kevin Harris, Wall, NJ. Dolores is also survived by her brother Joseph Pereira, Miami, FL and her sister Julie Lopes of Naples FL.

Arrangements are under the care of Orender Family Home for Funerals, Manasquan. There will be a “Celebration of Life” service at a later date. Memorial donations may be made to Alzheimer’s Association 331 Newman Springs Road #143 Red Bank, NJ 07701. To send condolences to the family please visit www.orenderfamilyhome.net.
