Karla Frances Howard, nee Webber, peacefully left this world on February 22, 2021 in the company of her eldest daughter, and with the virtual company of her younger daughter and son. Karla was born to William and Mildred Webber in Yonkers, NY on July 18,1942. She left Yonkers to attend and graduate from St. Aloysius College in Cresson, Pennsylvania and returned after graduation. She immediately began working in Manhattan until her November 1964 marriage to Joseph Howard. The couple resided in Dover, Delaware to be close to the airman’s US Air Force base until his discharge. At that time, the couple set up house in Queens, New York and began a family. Through the years, the family resided in New Jersey and lived in Ridgefield Park, Lincoln Park, Montville, and, since 1998, Wall Township.
Karla rejoined the workforce in the mid 1980s as a job placement counselor and, in a second career, as a paraprofessional –– a job she loved. Each school year, she’d be assigned a child with special needs and would shadow and help him or her throughout each school day. Karla loved each child she worked with; she was especially proud of them and enjoyed hearing about their accomplishments long after they graduated.
Karla was an avid reader and mystery fan. She loved sewing and quilting, her creative outlet. She enjoyed the boardwalk along the ocean and walked it daily in the spring, summer, and fall. More than anything, Karla loved her six grandchildren. She believed in giving back, often volunteering her time at her children’s schools and through her church. Karla was a tenacious woman who powered through challenges and took on tough roles, always with grace and love.
Karla was predeceased by her husband of 53 years, Joseph, brother, William Webber, and brother-in-law, Robert Howard. She is survived by daughters Jacqueline Howard, Jennifer McNulty, nee Howard, and son Patrick Howard; sons-in-law Albert Cavallo and Bill McNulty and daughter-in-law Sharon Howard, nee Aschoff; grandchildren, eldest to youngest, Ashley Howard, Zachary McNulty, Ryan Howard, Chase Webber Cavallo, Sydney Howard, and Eamon Patrick Cavallo; sisters-in-law Bonnie Lane Webber, Mary Siemorski, nee Howard, Maureen Howard, nee Calandra, and Virginia Howard, nee Whelan, brothers-in-law Donald Howard and Richard Siembroski, 11 nieces and nephews, and 24 great nieces and nephews.
The family extends gratitude to the compassionate and tireless healthcare workers, including doctors, nurses, and staff, of Ocean Medical Center.
