It is with deep sadness that we announce that our beloved mother, Mary M. (MacGeorge) O’Connell, 86, of Ocean Grove passed away from us on Wednesday March 3, 2021 after a brief illness at Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune.
Mary was born April 5, 1934, the youngest of nine siblings in Montclair, to Mary and Luke Mannion, both natives of County Mayo Ireland.
Mary attended and was a graduate Immaculate Conception High School in Montclair, NJ.
Mary met her first husband Calvin Aaron MacGeorge at Milnes Tavern in West Orange, NJ and they married in 1956. Mary and Calvin had three children in Roseland, NJ and then moved to Belmar, NJ in 1970.
Mary started her community service after retiring with her second husband, Herbert R. O’Connell to Englewood, FL, where they served Meals on Wheels and were actively involved with the local food bank.
Mary and Herb returned to New Jersey in 2005 to be closer to their children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Mary continued her community service by volunteering at Paul Kimball Hospital in the thrift and gift shops. As well as helping her neighbors at Homestead Run, Toms River by taking them to their doctor’s appointments and helping them run errands.
Mary continued her commitment to community service after moving to Manor by the Sea, Ocean Grove, NJ, serving as Resident Council President. Mary dearly loved her fellow residents and the staff at the Manor.
Mary was predeceased by her husband’s Calvin MacGeorge and Herbert O’Connell. Mary is survived by her children; Caroline Murphy, Ian MacGeorge, and Brian MacGeorge and his wife Virginia M. Klimek. Mary’s family includes four grandchildren: Matthew, Brandy, Robert and his wife Amber, and Ryan. Mary also had four great grandchildren: Ben, Dylan, Collin, and Cian.
