Cecelia Theresa Denito Bassani, age 93, of Manchester, NJ, formerly of Bloomfield, NJ, passed away peacefully at home on Monday, March 8, 2021, with her family at her bedside.
Born in Philadelphia, Cecelia was affectionately known as “Sis” or “Cele'' to her family and friends. She was raised in Bloomfield and was a member of the first graduating class of South Junior High School. Upon her graduation from Bloomfield High School in 1945, Cecelia worked at NJ Bell, Schering Plough and North American Insurance Company, before marrying the love of her life, John, in 1953 in California. They remained there for a short time while John was in the U.S. Marine Corps. Cecelia and John returned to Bloomfield and raised their five children on Walnut Street. While raising her family, Cecelia worked as a bookkeeper for her husband’s contracting company. After raising her children, Cecelia returned to work in 1978 as the office manager for Allen S. Glushakow, MD, for 26 years. As empty nesters, Cecelia and John lived in Las Vegas for a short time before settling in Manchester in 2007.
Cecelia was a former member of the Catholic Daughters of America, the Knights of Columbus Ladies’ Auxiliary and the Sacred Heart Church Rosary Society. As a young girl, she enjoyed summers at Budd Lake and roller skating. She enjoyed vacations on Long Beach Island with her cousin, Dee Kunz and loved visiting her parents and sister in Florida. She volunteered in the school library and cafeteria and was a Brownie troop leader. Cecelia loved her family and enjoyed big family dinners and celebrations when all her children and grandchildren could be around her. Her hobbies included travel, more particularly cruises, and needlepoint. She was an avid reader of romance novels, especially books authored by Nora Roberts and Danielle Steel. Cecelia loved Christmas, Hallmark ornaments and her extensive collection of Lladro figurines.
Cecelia is predeceased by her parents, Frank P. Denito and Loretta Mangini Denito, and her sister, Marie Denito Lord. She is survived by her loving and devoted husband, John, to whom she was happily married for 67 years. She will be lovingly remembered by her five children: John Bassani and his partner, Kit Murtha, of West Caldwell, NJ; Vincent Bassani and his wife, Debbie, of Califon, NJ; Cecelia DeNoia and her husband, Marty, of West Long Branch, NJ; Christopher Bassani and his wife, Angel, of Califon, NJ; and Frank Bassani and his wife, Kim, of Oil City, PA.
Cecelia will be missed by her eleven grandchildren: Lisa DeNoia of Virginia Beach, VA; Joelle Bassani of Costa Mesa, CA; Stephen DeNoia of Centreville, VA; Vincent Bassani of Scottsdale, AZ; Kristin Reagle and her husband, Chris, of Pittsburgh, PA; Christopher Bassani of Clifton, NJ; Courtney Bassani and her wife, Caitlin Mandrin, of Oxnard, CA; Michael Bassani of Point Pleasant, NJ; Joseph Bassani of Los Angeles, CA; Samantha Bassani and her fiancé, Jacob Ricciuti, of Pittsburgh, PA; and Frank Bassani, of Pittsburgh, PA.
She is survived by her nieces and nephew, Laura Sanders of Raleigh, NC; Joseph Lord of Davie, FL; Mary Shaw of The Villages, FL; and Anne Lord-Tomas of Fort Myers, FL. She is also survived by her goddaughter, Rose Salvadore of Bloomfield, NJ.
Cecelia also loved visits from her great grandpuppies Lola, Bentley, Mellow, Apollo, Maddie, Benny, Hershey, Canelo, and the late Sparky.
The Bassani family would like to express their gratitude to Cecelia’s caregiver, Laura Bayer, and the staff of VNA Hospice of Central Jersey, for the wonderful attention they gave to keeping her comfortable during her final days. We will be forever grateful.
