Obituary

On March 19, 2021 Gloria Leoniak passed away at the age of 83 surrounded by her loved ones. Gloria was born in the Bronx, NY on September 30, 1937 to Camella and Nicholas Miritello along with her brother, Joseph and sister, Julia, who she was very close with. She had three children, Ann Marie, Charles (2008) and George, who were very dear to her heart.
Gloria spent most of her vibrant, full life in New Jersey, where she met her beloved husband Dr. Thaddeus Leoniak and where she worked in their Brick ophthalmologist office. In a letter, Dr. Leoniak once wrote that her "innate and instinctive awareness of other people’s feelings, her willingness to respond to their needs and her strict adherence to the ‘golden rule’”, made Gloria the “glue” of the office. Even after her husband’s passing in 2004, she continued to work there, forging many wonderful friendships with patients, doctors and staff who appreciated her calm, confident and caring personality.
Anyone who knew Gloria also knows that she exuded a down-to-earth elegance that is rare in this world and that she was a very compassionate, intelligent, and witty person. In her free time, Gloria enjoyed creating intricate cards with rubber stamps, birdwatching, researching her Italian genealogy, visiting her favorite second-hand shops, and experimenting with new recipes from her collection of cookbooks. She also enjoyed talking with others about her family, including her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, who she loved very much. Gloria will be forever missed. At her request, no services will be held and, instead of flowers, Gloria would have wanted those who would like to memorialize her to express their love for those they value most.
Arrangements are under the care of Orender Family Home for Funerals, Manasquan, NJ. All services were private. Gloria was laid to rest next to husband Thaddeus at Brig Gen William C Doyle Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Wrightstown, NJ. To send condolences to the family please visit www.orenderfamilyhome.net

My family and I have been getting our eye exams in Gloria’s office for many years. We all have fond memories of Gloria - she knew us by name and always inquired about our health, etc. She talked to my husband about cars , and even made me an appointment for an allergist when I needed one. I was in the office a few weeks ago, and asked about Gloria because she was always there. I was told she retired, and then I learned of her illness and her death. We are all so sad - Gloria was special. Our condolences to all of you. Joe, Joyce and Ellen Mitchell

My husband and I have known Gloria for many years. Dr. Leoniak was our family Opthamologist . Gloria was such a wonderful intelligent, caring and kind lady. She would always speak to us about our family and remember incidents. I sometimes would run into her in places and share a conversation. She will be greatly missed by my husband and I and my daughters . Sincerely, Carol and Gene Wroblewski
