Elizabeth T. Brattlof of Sea Girt, passed away on March 27, 2021, at home in hospice care with her family by her side. She was 88 years young.
Betty was born in East Orange and lived in the Oranges before moving to Sea Girt 60 years ago. She graduated from Our Lady of the Valley High School and attended Seton Hall University. Betty’s strength was in her ability to do many things from gardening, painting, wall-papering, running the household, and keeping track of many children. Every weekend, she entertained for family who came “down the shore”. Betty is remembered for her tireless work every Christmas decorating the Spring Lake Golf Club for their holiday season. She is fondly remembered for her sense of humor and dedication to church. As a daily mass goer, Betty had a strong and profound faith and asked that anyone who wishes to pay their condolences to attend a service at their own church.
Elizabeth was the beloved daughter of the late William and Clara Mehl, loving sister of William Mehl, Claire Waldron and the late Ann Mehl and Walter Mehl. Elizabeth is survived by her husband of 64 years, Lawrence A. Brattlof. She is also survived by her seven children, Carolyn Brattlof, Gunnar Brattlof, Cynthia Zanowic (Jay), Jacqueline Brattlof, Elizabeth Carlson (Ralph), Leslie Madden and Ellen Brattlof as well as four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10:00am Saturday, April 10, 2021 at the Church of St. Denis, Manasquan NJ. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to Associated Humane Societies c/o Popcorn Park Animal Refuge, 1 Humane Way, Forked River NJ 08731. Arrangements are under the care of Orender Family Home for Funerals, Manasquan. To send condolences to the family please visit

As a child growing up and neighbors to the Brattloff’s my sister Doreen and I spent many hours playing with the Brattloff kids. From shooting basketballs, to tag, hide and seek, tether ball to Gunnar and me building projects in the basement. We did everything together and it seemed I spent more time over at the Brattloff’s then I did at home. “Mom” treated us as her own and when I needed a place to stay my junior year in the late summer, mom let me stay so I could make summer practice, getting up early to drop me off and pick me up late in the day. If not for Mrs. B I never would have got to play football at Wall High that year, she came through for me , that kindness I will never forget and will stay with me for the rest of my life. My deepest apologies to Mr. B and the Brattloff clan. God bless you Mrs. B, love, Jeffrey C Vajda
